A 14 year old Bruce Fletcher armed with a Kodak Instamatic camera took these photos of the 1967 Spring Festival. Did he realize then that one day he would become Fire Chief?

Ol' Bessie is a 1932 1/2 Model B Ford .  Ol Bessie was in service until 1969.

 
Engines from left to right.

1954 Snubnose Ford with a 500 gallon per minute Barton- American frontend pump with a 500 gallon booster tank.
 
1956 Snubnose Ford 500 with a 500 gallon per minute Barton-American frontend pump with a 500 gallon booster tank.

1960 Ford with a 500 gallon per minute frontend pump and a 1000 gallon tank.

Notice the rubber turnout gear.  I asked Bruce, "Didn't that stuff melt?" and Bruce replied, "Yeah, that's why they replaced it with the canvas-nomex turnout gear."

My thoughts!  Gosh but it musta' been hot in those rubber suits.  I'll bet those boots filled up with sweat.
