Yellow Rag Journalism Is Not Dead-- It lives in Maynard

The foulest lies, misrepresentations and factual distortions continue to be printed in the local Maynard based newspaper.  I make it a point never to buy that newspaper—never to read a discarded copy or visit their website.

They have neither editorial skills nor journalistic integrity.  It’s all about selling newspapers and if they believe they can sell a few more copies of that yellow rag by willingly allowing reporters to distort the “news” they write or columnists to defame an individual they will happily do so.

Please read this letter of support for Susan McLaughlin written by her co-workers.  The staccato drumbeat of criticism of Susan McLaughlin has not abated.  The chorus of criticism is led by Selectman Makary and Selectman Wheeler in a cold vendetta that has continued since Susan filed a grievance against Selectman Makary in December, 2004.

I urge the readers of The Stow Advocate to join my total boycott of that newspaper.  Don't buy it, don't read it, and cancel your subscription.

Townsman, publisher,editor

April 3, 2006

Letter to the Editor,

This letter is in support of Susan McLaughlin, Administrative Assistant to the Board of Selectmen.  The Town is very fortunate to have an employee such as Susan.  She has demonstrated that she is dedicated to serving the Town in a professional manner.  We have the honor of working with Susan on a daily basis.  We have seen a vast improvement in departmental communications.  Her dedication, professionalism and high standards are a strong indication that she cares about the Town.

The ongoing “judgmental” coverage in the Beacon Villager, most recently exhibited in the March 30, 2006 guest column is disappointing and unfair.  This column attacks Susan for not signing her name to minutes, as amended by the Board of Selectmen.  Susan exhibits a strong sense of morals in refusing to sign minutes that inaccurratley reflect the actual meeting.  As inferred in the column, she DID NOT “add caveats” to the public record.  The minutes were filed as amended by the Board and the filing meets the requirements of the Open Meeting Law and Charter.
