Welcome to the second issue of The Stow Advocate.
I’m still feeling my way around this brave,
new frontier of electronic publishing. Since it is very easy to add and delete
sections, I’ve added to this week’s edition, a section called “Seen Around Town”. This section will focus on people, places, and things. This
week, “Seen Around Town” finds Patti Heron with her arms full of two new residents to the town.
This week’s Rockbottom Ramblings probes
the world of voice communication. We have all become victims of new technologies. Bank ATMs made tellers out of us. Self-checkout
aisles in grocery stores made bag boys out of us. Now the Internet phone company,
Vonage, wants to put a telephone central office in our homes and make telephone technicians out of us. When will it end? I suspect when we all get delivered a brown
box containing a do-it-yourself lobotomy kit. Should I read the directions first?
The “Candid Camera” section is a quiz. Stow is a very watery
place. I have ten pictures of watery places in Stow. Can you name them? “Below the Fold” features a short story about a young, highly motivated kid from Stow.
I’ve received several emails that motivated
me to include a “From the Archives” section. In “From the Archives,”
I’ve reprinted two somewhat humorous articles about the Cushing
Land. Of course, if you
happen to be on the sharp point of my scribbling, you will not, in all likelihood, find them funny.
The “Mailbag” contains one letter
reprinted with permission. I want to thank the many, many positive responses
I’ve had to The Stow Advocate, and I would have printed some of them; however, managing that process is almost another
life. It’s something I need to get my arms around. Honestly, a couple of the emails were pretty funny.
There is a new link in the “Interesting
Links” section. If anyone can determine the purpose of the Falling Sand
Game, please let me know. The “Masthead” has been updated to include
new editors and contributors.
